VDRL Test Positive: What Does It Mean?

A positive VDRL test usually indicates a possible syphilis infection, but VDRL is a screening test and can sometimes be falsely positive. A positive result should therefore be confirmed with a treponemal test such as TPHA/TPPA.

The VDRL titer (for example, 1:2, 1:8 or 1:32) can help assess disease activity and is also useful for monitoring response to treatment.
